In this installment of “Play of the Week” with the Bruins, we will take a look at a handoff action that we used this season. We initiate the play with some false motion to keep the defense occupied. When we get to the handoff action, there are many reads and options.
The first video clip shows a pick-n-pop with the handoff person. The guard receiving the handoff has the option to score herself or hit the pop person for a jumper. The other guard in the play is coming off a double screen on the other side.
The second clip shows the defense jumping the handoff and our guard reacting with a backdoor cut. Our post players work on their ability to read the defense so that they can deliver the pass or handoff on time and on target.
The last video clip shows the double screen action for the shooter. The defense recovered to contest the shooter, so we spread the floor for a post player isolation and run our offense through the post. A simple basket cut on the weakside leads to an easy lay-up for the Bruins!
