Drill of the Week: Vanguard Shooting
Duration: 1 min Objective: Score 30 points Point value: 1pt for a layup; 1pt for a mid range shot; 2pts for a 3 point make Keys: Passing, spacing, shooting, communication, conditioning, Vanguard shooting is a drill that can be helpful for all levels. In this drill, place your team in to three lines on the baseline and designate two players to go to the opposite baseline. For this drill you will need two passers, and two cones. Start the ball in the middle line and begin a three player weave. As the players have completed two passes, the outside players must run their lane wide and get outside side of the cones looking to receive a pass from the two designated players on the baseline. As they shoot, the middle player will continue toward the basket to make a lay-up. Once the lay-up is made and the shots have been taken, the two wing players must rebound the ball and stay on the baseline to become the new passers. The middle person will get their ball out of the net and begin a three player weave going back toward the baseline they started at with the two players that were previously passers. As the two wing players fill their lane, they will receive the ball from the two respective outside lines for shots and the middle player will finish with a lay-up. After all the shots have been taken and made, the repetition of the drill begins to take place. This drill is great for a team looking to get a lot of shots in a short period of time. It help builds communication, and enthusiasm as well as develops passing and floor spacing. We hope this serves you well! Wendale @UCLAWBB Video Coordinator
