We start by placing the ball on a pylon. As Nirra approaches the pylon she is looking to snatch the ball quickly, while ripping through in to her dribble. It is important for the ball handler to rip the ball through low to keep command of their dribble. Once Nirra has taken her two dribbles, she will pull-up for a jump shot outside of the lane in front of the defender. The defender is placed here to simulate help defense from the weak side. Once Nirra shoots, she will track any rebound and finish with a make.
After Nirra has scored, she will pass the ball to the top of the key to a manager. As the manager receives the ball, Nirra will feel her defender and make the appropriate read coming of the stagger screen. She will then get the pass from the manager and finish the drill with another made basket.
In many of our drills we like to put our players in a position to make multiple decisions. We like to teach them to make the right reads and give them the confidence to go on the ‘next play’ whenever they make a mistake.
Be on the look out of our second installment of Drill of the Week coming shortly!
