Objective: Make 72 layups
Point Value: 1 point per layup
Keys: Passing, communication, conditioning, full speed finishes
72 in 2 is a full speed layup drill that is used from High School to all professional levels. In this drill, place your team in 2 respective lines on opposing baselines. For this drill you will need 2 managers or coaches in the middle.
Start the ball in the front of each line and begin the drill on the whistle. The first player from each line must pass to the designated maanger in the middle. As the pass it to the manager, they will sprint full speed past them receiving the pass back. Once the player has received the ball, they must push the ball full speed the length of the court for a layup. After the layup is made, the next person in line must get the ball out of the net quickly and proceed in the same way. This drill will create a continuous cycle of full speed layups. As the drill gains rhythm, each line will gain momentum and the speed of drill will pick up.
This drill is great for team conditioning. Players must talk and make layups while fatigued. Furthermore, it helps with communication and creating player accountbaility in reaching the team goal of 72 layups.
We hope this serves you well!
