In this episode of Drill of the Week the Bruins are working on their defensive stance and footwork. We spend time working on defensive techniques and couple that with conditioning elements for each workout in the off season. In this video you will see the Bruins working with our strength-stretch band. We are focused on maintaining balance and power in a defensive stance with a resistance element. As usual, our Bruin athletes make things look pretty easy…trust me, that resistance training is taxing on your core and legs.
Another element to our defensive stance training is speed and reaction. We use a variety of drills with flashing lights to train reaction time and vision, while still maintaining a good defensive stance. One of our best athletes at these reaction drills is Kelli Hayes. You can see Kelli maintain a good defensive position while incorporating quick reaction to the lights. Being able to see the play, is part of making the play. Kelli keeps her athletic defensive stance while reacting quickly to the flashing light.
Try to add competition and teamwork to all of your drills and conditioning. Our Athletic Performance Coach, Dave Wood, has done a great job of getting our athletes to combine all elements of training & conditioning while making the drills competitive and fun.
